Immediate Response First Aid

First Aid Course Sippy Downs for Students — Everything You Need to Know in 2026

If you’re a student at the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) — or living anywhere near Sippy Downs — and you need a nationally accredited first aid or CPR certificate, this guide answers every question you’re likely to have before booking.

IRFA (Immediate Response First Aid) is located at Unit 5/96 Bellflower Road, Sippy Downs QLD 4556 — a 2-minute drive from USC campus. We are a ASQA-registered RTO (RTO 32154) delivering the same courses your placement coordinator, employer, or faculty requires.

Why USC Students Need a First Aid Certificate

Many USC programs — including Nursing, Education, Paramedicine, Exercise Science, Social Work, and Occupational Therapy — require students to hold a current first aid and CPR certificate before going on placement.

USC’s own placement requirements state:

  • HLTAID011 Provide First Aid — valid for 3 years
  • HLTAID009 Provide CPR — must be renewed every 12 months
  • Certificates must be issued by an Australian RTO to meet USC placement compliance

IRFA is located literally on your doorstep. No bus across town. No paid parking. No delays.

The most commonly required certificate for USC students. Includes everything in CPR plus wound management, burns, fractures, anaphylaxis, asthma, seizures, choking, and emergency scene management. Meets ACECQA, WHS, and Queensland Department of Education requirements.

Frequently Asked Questions — First Aid in Sippy Downs

Do I need a first aid certificate for my USC placement?

Yes, for most health, education, and care placements. Log in to Sonia Online and check your Checks page for the specific requirements tied to your program. HLTAID011 covers the vast majority of placement requirements. If your course requires HLTAID012 (childcare-specific), we offer that too.

How much does a first aid course cost in Sippy Downs?

At IRFA Sippy Downs: CPR (HLTAID009) is $45 and Provide First Aid (HLTAID011) is $95. These are the lowest accredited prices on the Sunshine Coast. No booking fees, no hidden costs — the price you see is all-inclusive including your same-day hard copy and digital certificate on the day of training.

How long does a first aid course take?

  • CPR only (HLTAID009): 2 hours
  • First Aid (HLTAID011): 4 hours (blended: online theory completed beforehand + face-to-face practical)
  • Childcare First Aid (HLTAID012): 4 hours (blended: online theory completed beforehand + face-to-face practical)

You can complete online theory at home before your session, so the in-room time is focused on hands-on practical skills.

Do I need a USI to do a first aid course?

Yes. A Unique Student Identifier (USI) is required by law for all nationally accredited training in Australia. If you don’t have one, it takes under 5 minutes to create for free at usi.gov.au. You’ll need your driver’s licence, passport, or Medicare card to verify your identity.

What do I need to bring to my first aid course in Sippy Downs?

You need three things:

  1. Valid photo ID — Australian driver’s licence, passport, or proof of age card
  2. Your USI — free at usi.gov.au
  3. Comfortable clothing suitable for kneeling and floor-based CPR practice

All equipment is provided — CPR mannequins, AED simulators, bandages, and scenario props. You don’t need to bring a textbook or any medical equipment.

Can I get my certificate the same day?

Yes. IRFA emails your nationally recognised Statement of Attainment from RTO 32154 within 2–4 hours of completing your course. There is no postal wait, no online portal delay. Your certificate is valid immediately for employment and placement compliance purposes.

How long is a first aid certificate valid in Queensland?

  • HLTAID009 CPR: 12 months — must be renewed annually
  • HLTAID011 First Aid: 3 years
  • HLTAID012 Childcare First Aid: 3 years

Most USC programs require you to maintain currency across the full duration of your degree, so you’ll typically need to renew your CPR each year.

Is IRFA’s certificate accepted by USC / UniSC?

Yes. IRFA is an ASQA-regulated RTO (RTO 32154). All Statements of Attainment issued by IRFA are nationally recognised under the Australian Qualifications Framework and accepted by UniSC, ACECQA, AHPRA, WorkSafe QLD, and all Australian employers. You can verify RTO 32154 on MySkills.gov.au.

Are international students able to enrol?

Yes. International students studying at USC are welcome to enrol. You will need a USI — international students can obtain one using their passport. Your certificate will be nationally recognised and accepted for any Australian workplace or placement requirement.

What happens if I fail or need more practice?

IRFA’s pass rate is 99%. Our paramedic trainers provide individual coaching throughout the session. If you need extra time on a skill, our assessors work with you on the spot at no additional charge. Nobody leaves undertrained.

Can I renew my CPR certificate at IRFA?

Yes. Annual CPR renewals (HLTAID009) are available at our Sippy Downs centre from $40. Sessions run every weekday from 7 AM — the earliest accredited CPR sessions in Australia — as well as weekend mornings, so renewal fits around your study timetable.

Is there parking at the Sippy Downs training centre?

Yes — 100+ free on-site parking spaces with no time limits or meters. Dedicated disabled bays are located immediately adjacent to the entrance. No stress finding a park before your course.

Can I get to IRFA Sippy Downs by public transport?

Yes. The centre is served by Sunshine Coast bus routes 620, 621, and 622 (Stop ID 46789), a 5-minute walk from the USC interchange.

What is the DRSABCD action plan?

DRSABCD stands for Danger, Response, Send for help, Airway, Breathing, CPR, Defibrillation. It is the standard emergency response framework taught in all Australian first aid courses and aligned with the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) 2025 guidelines. You will practise this in every session at IRFA.

How is IRFA different from other first aid providers near Sippy Downs?

Three things separate IRFA from every other provider on the Sunshine Coast:

  1. Paramedic trainers — every session is delivered by a qualified paramedic or emergency medical professional with active clinical experience, not a generic workplace trainer
  2. Lowest prices — CPR from $45, First Aid from $95, with same-day certificates included
  3. Location — 2 minutes from USC campus with 100+ free parking spaces and a purpose-built 2,000m² training facility

Do you offer group bookings for student cohorts?

Yes. IRFA offers group discounts for 5 or more students. For groups of 8 or more, we can also deliver tailored on-site training at your faculty or organisation. Contact us on 1300 766 298 for a customised quote.
