Why This Training Matters
Electrical Incidents in Australian Workplaces
Electrical contact is one of the leading causes of workplace fatalities in Australia. UETDRMP018 gives your team the skills to respond when seconds count. Data sourced from Safe Work Australia and the QLD Electrical Safety Office.
~20 Electrical fatalities per year in Australian workplaces Source: Safe Work Australia

Real Workplace Situations
When Is UETDRMP018 Required?
These are the real workplace scenarios where trained UETDRMP018 personnel can make the difference between life and death. Each scenario is covered in your training at IRFA Sippy Downs.
Switchboard Contact — Commercial Building
An electrician making a switchboard modification contacts a live phase conductor. A colleague witnesses the contact. The victim is still in contact with the LV panel and cannot be touched safely with bare hands.
What UETDRMP018 teaches: How to safely deploy an insulated rescue hook to break contact, perform victim assessment, call 000, and begin CPR (HLTAID009) while managing the scene.
Covered in UETDRMP018 practical rescue scenariosDistribution Board — Industrial Facility
A maintenance electrician receives a shock from a distribution board during a panel inspection at a manufacturing plant. Colleagues see them slumped against the board but cannot determine if contact is broken.
What UETDRMP018 teaches: Scene assessment, safe approach distance, equipment selection, rescue hook operation, and coordinating with the emergency response team until ambulance arrives.
Mandatory for all ESI mutual aid arrangementsSubstation LV Apparatus — ESI Worker
An ESI network operator is injured by a fault on LV apparatus in a ground-level substation. A second worker is present and must act. Energy Queensland mutual aid requirements mean both must be UETDRMP018 certified.
What UETDRMP018 teaches: How mutual aid rescue operates in ESI environments, equipment protocols, calling emergency services, and post-rescue patient management.
Required by Ergon, Energex & Powerlink contractorsConstruction Site — Live Panel Work
An electrician on a commercial construction site contacts live conductors inside a temporary switchboard. The site safety officer designated as emergency response team lead must initiate rescue. Under QBCC and WHS obligations, trained rescue personnel must be on site.
What UETDRMP018 teaches: The full rescue sequence, documentation obligations under WHS law, and how to manage the scene until QLD Ambulance arrives.
Supports QBCC & WHS Act compliance The Critical Rule: Never Touch a Victim in Contact with Live Electricity
The single most important lesson UETDRMP018 teaches is this — attempting to pull a victim free with bare hands without breaking electrical contact will electrocute the rescuer too. Proper training with insulated rescue equipment saves two lives, not one. Book UETDRMP018 at IRFA or call 1300 766 298.

FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about UETDRMP018 Low Voltage Rescue Training at IRFA.
UETDRMP018 is required for electricians, ESI workers, electrical contractors and industrial electricians who work on or near live low voltage electrical apparatus and may need to perform rescue operations. Workplace emergency response team members are also often required to hold this certification. Check with your employer and state/territory licensing authority for your specific requirements.
Current CPR certification is mandatory before commencing UETDRMP018. Acceptable qualifications are HLTAID009 Provide CPR (2 hours, $55) or HLTAID011 Provide First Aid (4 hours, $110). Your certificate must be valid on the day of training. Without a valid CPR certificate, you will not receive your UETDRMP018 Statement of Attainment. Book CPR renewal at IRFA →
UETDRMP018 is a full-day course. The morning covers theory — electrical hazards, WHS obligations, rescue procedures and equipment specifications. The afternoon is hands-on practical training with actual live LV panel rescue equipment and realistic rescue scenarios. Full attendance is mandatory to receive your certificate.
There is no mandated national expiry period for UETDRMP018 itself. However, most ESI employers and electrical contractors require annual renewal to keep rescue skills current. Some workplaces accept 3-yearly renewal. Check your employer's specific policy and state/territory electrical licensing requirements. Your CPR prerequisite must be renewed every 12 months regardless.
UETDRMP018 covers rescue from live low voltage panels and apparatus only at ground level. It does not cover: overhead line rescue (requires UETDRMP007), underground cable rescue, high voltage rescue, pole-top or heights rescue, or confined space rescue. Using wrong rescue techniques can endanger both victim and rescuer — each rescue type requires appropriate specific training.
Completing the training does not require an electrical licence — only current CPR certification. ESI workers, emergency response team members and safety officers regularly complete UETDRMP018 without an electrical licence. However, applying rescue skills in your workplace may require additional qualifications. Important: UETDRMP018 authorises you to rescue someone who has contacted live LV apparatus — it does not authorise you to perform electrical work. Check with your employer and licensing authority.
Yes. IRFA offers on-site group UETDRMP018 training at your facility, workplace, depot or substation — we bring all rescue equipment. Ideal for electrical contractors and ESI organisations training teams without the need for travel. Call 1300 766 298 or email info@irfa.com.au for a group training quote. Group discounts apply.
Yes. UETDRMP018 issued by IRFA RTO 32154 is a nationally recognised Statement of Attainment under the Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF). It is accepted by all state and territory licensing authorities, ESI organisations and employers across Australia. The certificate is registered on My Skills and training.gov.au and can be verified by any employer. However, specific employer and state licensing requirements around currency and frequency of renewal vary — always check with your employer and relevant state authority such as the QLD Electrical Safety Office or Energy Safe Victoria.
UETDRMP018 (Perform Rescue from a Live Low Voltage Panel) is the more specific and comprehensive LV panel rescue unit — it covers rescue from live switchboards, distribution boards and LV apparatus including substation environments. It is the standard required by most ESI organisations and major electrical contractors.
UETDRRF004 (Perform Rescue from a Live Low Voltage Panel) is an older version of the same competency. The unit codes refer to different Training Packages but cover similar rescue skills. Many employers and ESI organisations have moved to UETDRMP018 as the current standard. Always confirm which unit your employer accepts before booking. Call 1300 766 298 if you're unsure which unit applies to your role.

If you don't demonstrate competency in the practical rescue assessment on the day, you will not receive your UETDRMP018 Statement of Attainment — competency-based training does not issue certificates for attendance alone. Our instructors provide clear feedback throughout the day so you understand exactly what's expected at each assessment point. If you are assessed as Not Yet Competent (NYC), you can arrange a reassessment at a reduced fee. Call 1300 766 298 to discuss reassessment options. Our pass rate is high because of the quality of instruction — most students who attend the full day pass first time.
No. UETDRMP018 is a standalone rescue competency — it does not replace a White Card (CPCCWHS1001), an electrical contractor licence, or an electrician's licence. UETDRMP018 specifically authorises the holder to perform rescue from a live LV panel — it does not authorise electrical work of any kind. If you work on construction sites you also need a White Card. If you perform electrical work you need the appropriate licence from your state licensing authority such as the QBCC in Queensland.

I would highly recommend.Posted on Lee FlanaganTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I really enjoyed the training with Peter. I’ve done my training with him in previous years. I feel fully equipped to deal with a first aid situation should the need arise.Posted on Kate BowernTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. I recently completed my First Aid and CPR certification with Immediate Response First Aid Training and I cannot speak more highly of Peter and the way he delivered the course. He explained everything in such an in-depth, grounded way but never overwhelming, always clear and genuinely engaging. It was, without doubt, the most interesting and enjoyable First Aid course I have ever done. Peter’s years of experience and breadth of knowledge stood out in every aspect of the course. He manages to strike the perfect balance ~ informative but never boring, funny yet appropriately serious and always patient. Any time I needed clarification, he explained things further with ease and reassurance. I’ll be returning to Immediate Response First Aid Training every year for my CPR refresher and every three years for First Aid. There’s simply no one I’d rather learn from. I’m also booking my teenagers in for Peter’s basic First Aid training so they can feel empowered, confident and prepared should they ever face a situation where their knowledge could save a life. A heartfelt thank you to Peter for a training experience that left me feeling capable, confident and ready to respond in any emergency, including CPR. I walked out the door with skills I trust and that’s invaluable. EDIT: My son broke his arm yesterday and I was calm and able to support my son emotionally and physically. While supporting him through the initial shock and pain, I immediately thought of what I learnt from Peter. It helped me enormously.Posted on Stephen WoodruffeTrustindex verifies that the original source of the review is Google. One of the better CPR refresher courses I have attended. Utilized the knowledge in the room while also contributing significant knowledge from extensive clinical background.
