What Is HLTAID011 Provide First Aid?
HLTAID011 Provide First Aid is Australia's nationally recognised workplace first aid qualification. It is the standard required by Safe Work Australia, state WHS regulators, and the vast majority of Australian employers for designated first aiders in all industries — construction, retail, healthcare, education, hospitality, trades, and more.
At IRFA, the course is delivered as a single 4-hour face-to-face session — no online pre-study required, no workbooks to complete beforehand. Every skill is practised hands-on by qualified paramedic instructors. Your nationally recognised Statement of Attainment is emailed the same day.
Your $95 fee covers HLTAID011 (Provide First Aid), HLTAID009 (Provide CPR) and HLTAID010 (Basic Emergency Life Support). No hidden extras. All three Statements of Attainment emailed same day.

Who Needs HLTAID011?
HLTAID011 is the mandatory qualification for designated workplace first aiders under Australian WHS legislation. It is also strongly recommended for anyone who wants to respond confidently to a medical emergency — at work, at home or in the community.
HLTAID011 & Australian Workplace Compliance
Under the Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and the model WHS Regulations, all Australian employers must ensure access to first aid equipment and trained first aiders. HLTAID011 satisfies this obligation across every industry and every state and territory.
Your IRFA certificate is recognised and accepted by:
- Safe Work Australia — national WHS regulator
- WorkSafe QLD, WorkSafe VIC, SafeWork NSW, WorkSafe WA and all state regulators
- All private sector employers across Australia
- Commonwealth and state government agencies
- NDIS providers, aged care facilities and allied health services
- Industry associations, unions and professional bodies
Requirements depend on your workforce size, shift patterns, risk level and proximity to emergency services. Read the 2026 Workplace First Aid Compliance Guide or contact info@irfa.com.au for tailored advice.

Assessment & Certification
HLTAID011 assessment involves two components, both completed during your 4-hour session:
- Practical skills assessment: Demonstrating CPR technique, DRSABCD action plan, wound management, anaphylaxis and scenario-based emergency response using professional equipment
- Written knowledge check: A short paper-based or verbal questionnaire assessing your understanding of first aid principles and Australian guidelines
IRFA's paramedic instructors guide every participant individually through each skill. If you need extra coaching on any technique, it's provided on the spot — at no extra cost. Our pass rate is 99%. Students requiring re-assessment can return within 3 months, free of charge.
Upon successful completion, your nationally recognised HLTAID011 Statement of Attainment is emailed directly to you — typically within hours. Valid for 3 years Australia-wide, accepted immediately by all employers. Issued by IRFA RTO 32154 — not a third-party certifier.
Expert Paramedic Instructors
Every IRFA trainer is a qualified paramedic or emergency medical professional with real-world experience in cardiac arrest response, trauma, anaphylaxis management and mass-casualty events. They don't recite slides — they share the clinical precision of actual emergency medicine in every hands-on session.
Director Peter McGreal has over 18 years of emergency medicine experience and leads IRFA's instructor team. When a real emergency happens, IRFA-trained first aiders respond with confidence — because they learned from people who do it for real.
