This course, offered by Immediate Response First Aid (IRFA), includes essential first aid techniques such as CPR. Over four hours of hands-on, face-to-face training, you’ll learn the key skills needed to respond to emergencies, provide life-saving care, and stabilize individuals until professional medical assistance arrives.

This training will ensure the safety of your colleagues, clients, and visitors, while also helping you meet workplace compliance requirements. Whether you’re handling minor injuries, performing CPR, or managing more serious emergencies, this course will equip you with the confidence and know-how to act quickly in any situation.

This competency unit covers the skills and knowledge required to provide first aid, life support, casualty management, and assistance to others until medical help arrives. Our course includes training for both adult and child conditions and is aligned with Workplace Health and Safety legislation. The course is a minimum requirement for workplace first aiders and is equivalent to the previously known Senior First Aid course.

Topics Included:

  • Legal and Social Responsibilities: Understand the role and obligations of a first aider.

  • First Aid Facilities: Learn the essential first aid resources and training for your workplace.

  • Emergency Assessment: Develop the skills to assess and respond effectively to emergency situations.

  • Wound Care and Infection Control: Apply infection control procedures for:

    • Burns & electric shocks

    • Eye injuries & soft tissue wounds

    • Venomous bites, stings, & allergic reactions

    • Spinal injuries & fractures

  • Casualty Management: Manage casualties with:

    • External bleeding

    • Shock

    • Drowning or near-drowning

    • Head, chest, and abdominal injuries

    • Exposure to extreme temperatures

  • CPR & Airway Management: Maintain the airway, breathing, and circulation of an unconscious casualty.

  • AED Operation: Learn to use an automated external defibrillator (AED).

  • Assessment and Reporting: Understand the principles of casualty assessment, safe movement, and first aid reporting requirements.

Training Duration and Delivery
This course includes four hours of face-to-face training, with pre-course reading materials.

Assessment Process
At the end of the training, you will undergo both a theoretical and practical assessment to demonstrate your understanding and ability to manage life-threatening situations effectively.

Course Outcome
Upon successful completion, you will receive a Statement of Attainment, valid for 3 years. Note: CPR certification must be renewed annually.
